Pair.

Just when you think things are starting to warm up we get another cold snap. People don't take too well to this change but, surely, most people have grown up with this weather of ours - I've seen snow in June. However, the wildlife doesn't get weather reports or news bulletins so life just goes on as normal. The Red-breasted Merganser numbers are rising steadily with the males looking splendid and the females feeding well to get into breeding condition.
A victory flap after swallowing the fish or does it help the fish go down?
There are good numbers of Stonechat this year. The males are starting to look good...
...and they are keeping a close eye on their females.
I've already mentioned the return of the Pied Wagtails but despite the numbers still growing there isn't a female to be seen yet - they will come!

Just Otters.

I came across an Otter family that I hadn't seen before but I had to stick with the motor as they were right next to the road. I only took a couple of shots of this one as it was curious about the motor and it did settle down to eat the fish.
As it headed off one of the Otters was out on the shore a bit further out.
This wasn't going to last too much longer as there was traffic going past but luckily none stopped. All three came together at one point.
The youngsters are a blast to watch as they will take any opportunity to have a bit of rough and tumble.
Another ten minutes and the mother was calling for the youngsters to follow...
...and then they were gone.

Delayed.

I woke up, looked out of the window and saw snow on the hills and thought this might be a chance to get an Adder in the white stuff. I was quick enough off the mark but I got delayed by something. I did get good views of a Shelduck...
...and a GN Diver that was coming into summer dress.
A couple of Golden Eagle put on a display, a Hen Harrier was seen and it was that warm in the sun that the Adders were seeking the shade after a while!
What was the cause of the delay? I came across a large bird that wasn't aware of being watched due to not looking in the right direction!
I doubt I will ever get that close to a White-tailed Eagle again.
